CFI-LONG ISLAND Joins Reasonable New York
March 5th, 2011 - For Immediate Release
Reasonable New York, the two-year-old confederation of ten New York-area freethought groups, announced today that Center for Inquiry-Long Island has joined RNY.
Tunç Iyriboz, Current RNY Chairman, today sent an email to Phil Pollack, informing him that CFI-LI’s application for membership was approved unanimously and immediately by the RNY Roundtable, and welcoming the Long Islanders to the organization. Mr. Pollack, who is CFI-LI’s Treasurer, will serve as the organization’s delegate to the RNY Roundtable, with Chris Masto as his alternate.
RNY is a “working alliance” for planning, scheduling and outreach of ten (now 11!) independent freethought organizations: Center For Inquiry-New York City; Dinner and Philosophy Now; Flying Spaghetti Monster Meetup; Jolly 13 Club; New York City Brights; New York City Skeptics; New York City Philosophy; New York Society for Ethical Culture, Richie’s List, and the Secular Humanist Society of New York. “Many of our members are also active in many of the RNY organizations,”
Mr. Pollack said, “so, first of all, this is a natural fit for CFI-Long Island. But what’s more, allying with RNY helps us coordinate our events and outreach programs with ten of New York’s leading freethought organizations, and to promote them all across the greater New York area.” “CFI-Long Island has a long and distinctive history as the premier voice for reason, freethought and humanism in one of America’s largest population centers,” Mr. Iyriboz said, “and we’re delighted to have them under the RNY umbrella. RNY welcomes every established New York-area organization that supports reason, and we’re looking forward to adding even more members.”
Reasonable New York is a consortium of local reason-based organizations and people working together to increase awareness of secular-minded movements throughout the Greater New York area. We aim to inform New Yorkers that there is a community of people who share a rational basis for their worldviews, who attend intellectual public lectures, enjoy philosophy discussions, and socialize. We invite you to visit our various member groups, to contact any of those in which you are interested, and check out our calendar to attend gatherings of any of our organizations, many of which are free. Some of these events are also posted on our shared meetup site.
